I think that the more we learn and discover, the more we want to learn and discover. I think that new ideas and thoughts make people think even harder, and the thought that we can understand everything that happens around us makes us want to figure it out even more. For me personally, the thought that there are discoveries and inventions out there that we can't even comprehend makes me want to go and discover it myself. I think that when we discover phenomenon's in the world, it makes us even more driven to find more that we can understand.

I don't know why the Sahara would dry up. I read a little bit about it, and the sites I looked at said that it might have become a desert because the Earth changed orbit. But what made it change orbit? I honestly have no clue. My imagination must have dried up. Haha, get it? :)
If I could visit somewhere it would either be England, actually London (Honestly, I even love to say London. It sounds kind of magical :) ) or France (specifically Paris). Not for any reason other than I'm a hopeless romantic, and I love seeing pictures of those places, it's always so beautiful. And I love hearing about them. Also, I've always wanted to see the Eiffel Tower, and I've always wanted to see Big Ben and Buckingham palace :). I mean, come on! Who wouldn't want to see that in person?????? It's stunning!!!
![]() Well, you said tell a story, so here goes...... Once upon a time, there was a planet called earth. This planet was beautiful beyond description, covered in all the colors ever imagined. The people that lived on this planet were the most carefree, most easy-going that ever existed. The only thing that could even be considered a flaw, was that this planet had no gravity, which did make it hard to do things, such as walk to your friends house, or even retrieve the mail from the mail box. Not to mention that it was rather hard to avoid the trees, houses, animals, and even other people. ![]() But the people of this planet didn't really care much about this flaw. In fact, these people didn't care much about anything. Actually, they were quite oblivious to anything going on in the world around them. They had carefree lives, much as the world around them was carefree, not even thinking enough to make gravity for it's poor inhabitants. These people laughed, but it was for nothing. They smiled, but only because they didn't think to frown. And, of course, this was because they had no gravity of thought or mind, as well as no physical gravity. They cared nothing for life, education, or even themselves. A thought would leave their heads as soon as it entered, because there wasn't enough gravity for it to stay. Of course, they had natural survival instincts, so they would eat their meals of airy bread and bubbly water, sleep their dreamless, comfortless sleeps, and then wake up to their disturbingly useless lives. Then one day, Aliens that had been watching this world took pity on these poor excuses for intelligences, and decided to give them gravity. Then with one zap of their instant-gravity gun, they gave the earth people, in a sense, lives.
At first, this was a very hard change for the people on earth, but they got used to it, and were infinitely grateful to the aliens for saving them. THE END ![]() The solar eclipse last summer was so amazing. It was incredible and beautiful, and I loved watching it. But even though I knew what was happening, it was a little scary. I was worried that the sun would never come back out, and it would be dark. I think if I had seen a solar eclipse years ago and didn't understand what was happening, it would have been the scariest thing that ever happened to me. But I'm so grateful that I could see it and understand what it was. ![]() In this life, each and every one of us was sent here to fulfill a unique mission meant just for us. God saw what we had the potential to accomplish, the people we could influence, the ways we could change the world, and He sent us here to do what only we could do. Every person that we meet, every trial that we face, was put in our path to help influence us in - or is part of - our mission. Now in saying that, we must also seek knowledge and experience that will help us in our mission. Heavenly Father could all but put opportunities in our lap, and we would never realize they were there if we're not searching for them. We must always seek things that are good. Goals are a HUGE part of our missions. We need to be working towards something, and want it, if we ever want to accomplish anything. Without goals, our life would be one passing thing after another, and we would just be waiting for the next thing to happen. Goals keep us grounded and help us face trials. They help us stay focused and not get lost in a constantly changing, frenzied world. They let us have something to hold onto as our lives get crazier, and the world gets scarier. Our ultimate goal of course is to get to heaven. To always strive to do better so that we can get back to our Heavenly Father. If we're constantly trying to do better, and become closer to God, our lives will be influential, no matter what our other goals are. The goal to get back to live with God is our light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes I feel like the only reason people talk anymore is to prove that they know more than the person they're talking to. But then the other person does the same, and it turns into an irrational argument/fight, with each person using different words, but their actual meaning is "I'm smarter than you". Books unite us by letting us see the world through others eyes, without having to argue and fight about it. They let us have something solid to hold onto in a world where things are constantly changing. Actual books (not the ones that you download onto your device) won't change when something isn't politically correct, or when someone doesn't like something about them. They let us keep ahold of knowledge so we're not constantly re-calculating, re-writing, and re-thinking things that have been long figured out by now. They make it so we're not in a constant loop of figuring something out, forgetting it, figuring it out again, and forgetting it again.
Not only do we learn real, school-related things from books though. Fictional books help us to escape from the world we live in, and connect with others through our different interests and hobbies. I couldn't say how many friends I've made because of books. Books also keep our imaginations alive by making us think of the impossible becoming possible. If we didn't have books, our world would be like the world in Fahrenheit 451. Frightening, divided, and careless. Books make it possible to think about something other than ourselves. I think that this statement, "Since there is a twofold way of acquiring knowledge--by discovery and by being taught--the way of discovery is the higher, and the way of being taught is secondary." is COMPLETELY true. Even if you have the most amazing teacher that ever lived on the planet, you will never learn anything worthwhile if you don't want to discover it for yourself. I think that this relates a lot with Fahrenheit 451 - Just because you can spout off facts like how much grain has been sold in that past year, or what the square root of 576 is, doesn't mean you have truly DISCOVERED knowledge. I think that you also have to have a desire to learn. Without a desire to discover truth and learn, nothing will ever stick in your brain long enough for you to realize it's there. Now in saying that, I think that good teachers are a HUGE part of being able to discover knowledge. I think that a lot of the time, good teachers are what inspire you to want to discover knowledge. But when it comes down to it, you are the only one truly responsible for what you learn.
I think that logic is very important when you're figuring out what is true and what's false. It helps you to see things in other ways, and think through different ideas. Without logic, arguments that are meant to enlighten and teach each other wouldn't work. They would just turn into fights, with each person trying to defend their own opinion, never wanting to see things any other way.
I do think that logic and reasoning are the only ways to come to know truth, because even with things as simple as math and science, if we're not in the mindset to learn new things, we won't be able to. I see myself like them. For example, because I'm homeschooled, I feel like every day I have to fight against the world because so many other kids go to public school. It's getting more common, but it's still not popular to homeschool, and the world view is to be public schooled, not homeschooled. And with the gospel too. Because I have the gospel, I have different standards than most people. Not only is going to church and seminary different, but modesty, the word of wisdom, and the 10 commandments, are WAY different than what the world is encouraging everyone to believe.
